Natural solid timber hardwood floorboards come in planks - 13mm – 19mm in thickness, and 70mm – 120mm in width, and lengths of 60cm – 5m.
They are supplied by the mills with the top surface lightly sanded. When they are fully installed in your home, they need to be properly sanded by the installer and all cracks filled with putty. The next stage is to give 3 coats of varnish. This is all done on the premises.
3 Methods of Installation

The boards are directly glued to the concrete slab which has been water-proofed and then sanded and polished

The slab is first water-proofed and sheet plywood is affixed to it. The boards are secret-nailed to it and then sanded and polished

The concrete slab is water-proofed, batons are affixed to concrete slab and the floorboards are then secret-nailed to the batons, then sanded and polished. In this method, the boards need to be 19mm in thickness. In method (a) or (b) they can be 13mm in thickness
In new homes under construction, the installation process takes about 3 to 4 weeks as timber floorboards need acclimatizing. In established homes, where people are already living, they may need to move out whilst the sanding and polishing process is in operation. Please note, some timber species are hard to get and availability of supply is unreliable, so, the earlier you purchase, the greater is the chance of getting that timber without hiccups.
